Vanguard Customer Reviews

Pros:
Cons:
Vanguard is a good place to keep really long-term, lazy, sometimes re-balanced index fund money. As a trading platform they are not even in the running. If you keep enough money with them and fall asleep for five years their charges are very low. However if you want to trade anything use another broker.

Pros:
who are they???
Cons:
can't find out???
Don't deal with... can't get my late mother's funds out... Tried to insist that funds be transferred to an inherited IRA with payments over my life expectancy....refuse to abide by IRS documented and particular case tax rate......... Finds a good firm that will let you get funds out when you want to.

Pros:
Convenient Website, Helpful Customer Service, low costs, Easy To Sign up, VERY HELPFUL TO THE SMALL INVESTOR, No sales pitches, awesome, easy to navigate
Cons:
Vanguard has always been so wonderful to work with, well except once, but let's stick to the rule and not the exceptions. I opened my Roth IRA when I was 18 with Vanguard. That was 13 years ago. I have continued to invest with Vanguard and not looked back. I recommend Vanguard to all of my friends. If they could get me going and set up at 18, then they can get anyone investing.
I have a SEP IRA, Roth IRA, and Money Market fund with Vanguard. My work allows me to pick from five investment companies and Vanguard is one. Their fees are by far the lowest and their returns are top notch.
I will continue to use Vanguard and anticipate long term success with their company and product. I am excited to continue investing in them with my work 401k. If you aren't investing with Vanguard, make the switch. Their website and tips are also great, easy to use, and helpful. I often read their articles and learn a lot.

Cons:
Cannot beat their low cost but their service stinks. I have had all my assets there for a number of years but am seriously considering going elsewhere. They just do not seem coordinated. As I am deaf when I have a question, I contact them on-line. More often than not, it seems that they do not even read my question and reply with one of those one size fits all canned answers. Most everyone knows that RMDs for IRAs have been suspended for 2009, yet they sent me a notification concerning my IRA RMD for 2009 and it arrived in April, long after the suspension became law. Those less informed that do not know about the suspension will be taking RMDs that they did not need to take. I could go on and on about my dissatisfaction with them but I do not have the time to write a book.

Pros:
Cons:
Vanguard's been a good place to invest for me, largely because it takes so long for them to execute mutual fund
trades. I never stress myself out saying "wow, the market is way up/down, I better trade", because I know by the time they do the trade the market will have reversed itself. So I don't waste any brain power on thinking I can beat the markets.

Pros:
Cons:
There is a reason Vanguard is known for its mutual funds and not for its brokerage services. Excessively high trading commissions, sloppy customer service, terrible trading and research tools make it hard for Vanguard to get any recognition.
The company is charging $30 annual maintenance fee for regular accounts. There is no fee for IRA accounts, but there are much cheaper firms for your retirement account.

Pros:
Cons:
I love Vanguard. After formulating my philosophy of buy and holding a diversified set of low cost index funds, I considered Fidelity, T Rowe Price, and Vanguard. At the time, Vanguard had better expense ratios than the others, and since I met the $3000 min balance to start, I went with them. I’m glad I did. The Target Age Retirement funds made it easy for me to have a one stop shop to invest in, and it would automatically rebalance for me. As an IT professional, I’m much better off investing my time in learning new skills for my career than constantly managing my retirement portfolio.
A year after setting up my IRAs, I switched jobs and rolled over my former employer’s 401k. I couldn’t believe how easy Vanguard made the process. A couple of mouse clicks to answer basic questions, and they generated the required letter with all the account info I needed to provide the 401k provider to initiate the rollover.
I’ve only had to call customer service once, and they answered quickly and were very helpful.
Nothing but pleased with Vanguard!
